Hair Appliances

We started off class by moisturizing our face, pulling our hair back, putting on corrective makeup, applying age makeup and hiding both of our eyebrows. I managed to take a picture of my basic corrective (before it was blended in) and my hidden eyebrows. However, I forgot to take a picture of my old age makeup. 

To make our hair appliances, Sue graciously supplied us with two different colors of fake hair. 

1.) Create 5 tiny globs of each color of hair (10 total)

2.) Combine two different colors of hair by placing two different hair globs on top of each other. Pull them apart in the same direction so that they will eventually become as one. Do this with all of the hair globs until you have 5 new pieces of hair!

3.) Add two coats of liquid latex on top of the outline for the eyebrows and mustache. Be sure to use a transparency and make sure the first coat of latex dries before you add the second one. 

4.) For the mustache start at the bottom and work your way up and for the eyebrows start at the outside corner and work your way in; apply a tiny hair glob to the bottom of a makeup brush. While holding your makeup brush down on the latex pull the glob of hair away so that some of the hair will stick to the latex.

5.) Step four needs to be repeated multiple times until the hair appliances are complete

Before we start the next step, you will need to wipe off the makeup where the hair appliances will be with a baby wipe. 

Peel off appliances using translucent powder and your blush brush. Put the translucent powder on a clean countertop and dip your brush into it. Peel off a corner of your mustache or eyebrows and add this powder to the underside of each appliance. Do this thoroughly so your appliances don't stick to anything.

Add two layers of spirit gum to the underside of each appliance, making sure they dry in between. You want to make sure that the spirit gum is not too wet when you apply it to your face because if it is and you sweat then it will slide right off. 

  

These pictures explain exactly how I felt this day! The spirit gum was irritating my skin so much that it was tingling. Sue and I think that this happened because I didn't let the spirit gum dry long enough before I applied it to my skin. 

Use spirit gum remover on a q-tip or cotton ball and gently peel off your eyebrows or mustache while applying the remover under your appliances. If you want to reuse these in the future, you must get ALL of the spirit gum off of your appliances. Also make sure you remove the excess spirit gum from your face as well! 

 

To remove the hidden eyebrows and age makeup, use cold cream and baby wipes!
